There are thirty hand techniques, thirty kick techniques, and thirty self defense techniques. For each skills review, one should know three hand, kick and self defense techniques. For example, a white belt should know techniques 1-3, a yellow belt should know techniques 4-6, etc. There fore this workbook is organized in this manner. Each belt has its own section, with the 6 or 9 techniques they should know for their skills review. Know that this workbook is only an addition to the manual and hard work, not a substitute for it.
This workbook explains the techniques with right hand and right foot attacks and defenses. Students will be required to know both the right side and the left side. Once the right side is learned, making the transition to the left side should be easy.
Il Soo Sik Dae Ryun (One Step Hand Techniques)
In the hand techniques series, both students are facing each other in choon bee position. One person shall be the attacker, one shall be the defender. The attacker shall initiate all the hand techniques by moving backward into a left front stance while executing a left hand low defense and kihaping. The attacker will then wait for the defender to kihap to signal the start. While the attacker is moving into his/her starting position, the defender will wait in choon bee position. The defender will signal his readiness by kihaping.
Il Soo Sik Dae Ryun Bal Chaki Bop (One Step Kick Techniques)
In the kick technique series, both students are facing each other in choon bee position. One person shall be the attacker, one shall be the defender. The attacker shall initiate the technique by moving into a starting position and kihaping. The attacker will then wait for the defender to kihap to signal the start. While the attacker is moving into his/her starting position, the defender will also move into his/her starting position. The defender will signal his/her readiness by kihaping.

The final technique shall be a left hand reverse punch to the attacker's face.
21. When the opponent attacks, the defender shall move backward into a right fighting stance (left foot will move) while executing a right hand inside-outside soo do block to the incoming attack. Next, the defender shall move the left foot forward while grasping (with the right hand) and pulling the opponent's outstretched arm. This will throw the attacker off balance (forward). 23. When the opponent attacks, the defender shall move laterally (45 degrees to the left and forward from choon bee) into a horse stance (the left foot moves) while executing a double arm trap on the incoming attack. The double arm trap will be done as follows: The right arm will swing upward trapping the attacker's punch in the crotch of the defender's arm. Simultaneously, the left arm will execute an outside-inside type motion striking the attacker's arm at the elbow (striking surface will be the forearm). Next, the defender will move in a clockwise motion moving the right foot 180 degrees to a position behind the attacker. This movement, along with the trapped arm, will result in a take down.
24. When the opponent attacks, the defender shall move forward into a horse stance (same as technique #3) while executing a left hand inside-outside soo do block to the incoming attack. Also, simultaneously, the defender shall execute a right hand upper cut to the attacker's chin.
